Prepare your Passport

Before heading off to China next summer, you will need a valid passport.

We will begin the visa application process in early spring.

To enter Taiwan, your passport must be valid at least through your departure date (≈ late July of next year).  We highly recommend that it be valid at least through August.  You may find that the best tickets require you to pass through a 3rd country (Japan, South Korea, Canada, etc.), and you don’t want any issues to arise due to an expired (or nearly expired) passport.

If there is any chance that you might study abroad in the fall or spring semester after your summer abroad, we would encourage you to go ahead and renew your passport now to avoid any delays in application procedures for the program(s) you may be applying to this year.

To be sure that everyone has taken the time to make any necessary preparations by the end of the fall semester, we require that you inform us of your passport’s current status. This simply ensures that you are aware of what steps, if any, you need to take in the next 6 months. Waiting until the last minute to obtain a new passport can require significant expedition fees. Please review the State Department’s website for policies on obtaining or renewing a passport:
